How cute are these! I have recently got these little beauties. They are South American short-tailed opossums (Monodelphis domesticus). They are a pair which hopefully next year I will be breeding!

I can't disclose on a public forum where these guys came from the breeder wants to remain anonymous. But to answer the other questions they are marsupials but do not have a pouch, the reason they are still marsupials is because they have a short gestation period of 12 days! The young are born 1/8 of an inch long and take 1 month to get hair! Bless them!
The spiny mice are really tame! We used to have them at college and they were extremely agressive, but these two are real sweeties! -------------------- Keeping reptiles for over 19 years! Experienced in many species but specialist in New Caledonian geckos, Leaftail geckos and Uromastyx.

They are definately not being bred for food! Otherwise they would be very expensive food!

I have 7 Cairo Spiny Mice, different to your's, mine are slate gray colour, a bit more slender and are probably not hand tame, what species have you got? I donated two to my old college, im sure its not the same college though They are easilly bred in captivity, before long you should have loads more of them, I started with 2 and have had over 15 at some periods over the last few years. |

I went to Pencoed College, nr Bridgend South Wales,
They had loads of different animals, but not many exotic mammals, so I donated two female Cairan Spiny Mice to them. |

I went to Askham Bryan College in York and we had the Cairo spiny mice - little buggers! I think mine are known as Golden Spiny mice - hopefully I can find a male otherwise we won't be breeding them at all!

Have you tried Simon's Rodents, have you heard of them?, I got my Spiny Mice and a few other's from them a few years ago. I would try to find their number if you would need it, they havent got a website (I think) but they did sell some exotic small-mammals, I found out about them in a old C&a birds, I might still have their number somewhere.
